The Taylor Made House is the exercise with which students conclude the teaching experience of the first term of the second year, structured under the title “The Domestic Realm.” After working on the fluidity of continuous space across three spatial and structural dimensions through a modified Hejduk 9 Squares exercise, and after introducing a simple program in a pavilion within a public space—where the exterior is as important as the interior—we now approach the quintessence of the domestic: the house.
In an exercise of utmost responsibility and respect, the student must design a house in one of the best locations in San Sebastián for their idol—for that figure/client to whom they wish to dedicate all the design skills acquired to date; the culmination of the mini initiatory journey of this first semester of their second year in the degree.
With Taylor Swift as the default character, each student proposes a figure—a client whom they fictitiously interview—and for whom they must design a specific program, reflecting their tastes, quirks, and needs. We have designed houses for Taylor Swift, Wes Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Rosalía, a student’s favorite aunt, famous rappers, footballers, and more.
